Whether big or small, the Holy Mountain of Bavaria has much to offer young and old, children and families.

Join us on a voyage of discovery.

Our route planner takes you to our free carpark at the foot of the Holy Mountain. This is the ideal starting point for your voyage of discovery around the Holy Mountain. At the carpark, you can start immediately at the monastery garden with its wide range of kitchen and medicinal herbs. All plants are labelled. That way, even the little ones can learn to distinguish between the original ingredients for their cough syrup. Afterwards, you will then scale the Holy Mountain with its famous pilgrimage church. On the route to the Holy Mountain, the pilgrims with sporting ambitions opt for public transport to Herrsching suburban railway station, from where they then walk the firm footpath up the mountain through the picturesque Kiental. Parents or groups with small children and prams can also complete this route in about an hour, which takes them directly to the front of the pilgrimage church. From July to October, the pilgrimage church is the venue of a free twenty-minute presentation where you can learn more about the history of the Holy Mountain. Afterwards, the monastery shop invites you to purchase from a wide range of books, CDs, religious ethnic art, and waxwork.

Relax and enjoy

The Bräustüberl tavern presents a large sunny terrace where you can now relax, enjoy the magnificent panorama, and eat a meal. According to the ancient tradition of pilgrimage, pilgrims may bring their own food with them – a particular advantage for families. And to round it off, an Andechs monastery beer fresh from the keg! Our monastery brewery also makes soft drinks for our little guests. And the free colouring book telling the tale of the monastery mouse will certainly keep them distracted. Also the youngest are catered for, with babycare room, highchair, and baby bottle and cup warmers.

The Wappensaal café provides a range of coffee specialities, cakes, and ice cream flavours. Or you can treat yourself to a Steckerlfisch, tasty fish on a stick, in the beer garden opposite the Klostergasthof tavern in the shade of old chestnut trees, while your children can romp to their hearts’ content on the nature playground.

Geocaching und minigolf

Whether you are a fan or just interested in geocaching, you will find many opportunities in the direct vicinity of the monastery. Simply enter the search term “Andechs” at www.geocaching.com, and away you go. Every walk then turns into a little adventure. The minigolf course at the foot of the mountain invites families to a friendly putting match.

When returning to the carpark or bus stop, you will pass by the Maibaumplatz square where you can see the award winning works of the Symposium Kunst und Bier artists. These works are created live every year in August! The Andechs community holiday programme also reserves a day for the children, when they can enjoy that special kind of art lesson.

3 October is children and family day

And you will certainly be back, for instance on 3 October, the annual children and family day.
